Neil Armstrong Report

Neil Armstrong was an American Astronaut and the first person to step on the moon.

Armstrong was born on the 5th of August 1930, in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He was Scottish and German. His mum’s name was Viola Armstrong and his dad’s name was Stephen Armstrong. Neil had two younger siblings, called June and Dean. Stephen Armstrong worked as an Auditor and the lived in 20 different towns because of his fathers job.

He was accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He attended Blume High School. Armstrong began studying aerospace engineering at Purdue University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was only the second person in his family to attend college. While at Purdue, he met Janet Elizabeth Shearon, who was majoring in home economics. They were married on January 28, 1956, in a Church in Wilmette, Illinois. When he moved to Edwards Air Force Base.

In 1969 Neil Armstrong flew with Buzz Aldrin in the Eagle spaceship to the moon. The landing on the surface of the moon occurred at 20:17:39 UTC on July 20, 1969. The first words Neil Armstrong said was ‘The Eagle has landed.’ When he climbed down the bottom of the ladder he said ‘ I’m going to step of the LEM now.’ He then turned and set his left boot on the surface then spoke ‘That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

On the 25th of August Armstrong died in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 82 due to complications from blocked coronary arteries.

Neil Armstrong is one of the best people in the world, and will be greatly remembered for his phrase on the moon.
