What sort of landform is the Waitemata harbour?
The Waitemata Harbour it is a drowned river valley.
Why was it chosen to be New Zealand’s capital?
It was chosen to be capital because it allowed boats and ships to sail on it. Also the sheltered bays helped Lieutenant- Governor Hobson make a decision to make it New Zealands capital in 1840
What does Waitemata mean?
Waitemata means obsidian glass. That means that the water sparkles and  has a reflection.
Tell me one interesting fact about each of these features of the Waitemata:
Auckland’s chief port - They got back 132 acres of land back. The chief port was very vital to Auckland's progress.
Viaduct basin - The viaduct basin hosted the America’s cup in 1999 to 2003.
Westhaven - The Westhaven marina has the largest managed marina in Australasia
Harbour bridge - The Auckland Harbour Bridge is 1,020 metres long.
Greenhithe bridge - The  Greenhithe bridge  was built in 1975 as an alternative harbour.
Natural features - The Meola reef was formed by lava from the Three Kings eruption 20,000 years ago.
